Cheryl and Jerry Strittmatter have been Meals on Wheels delivery volunteers for the past 3 years. The couple saw an ad in their church bulletin regarding the need for Meals on Wheels volunteers. They felt it was something they needed to do and have been doing it ever since.

The Strittmatters deliver meals to homebound seniors. Their route is in the Duncansville area of Blair County every Wednesday. Cheryl said, “We get to know the consumers we deliver to. We get used to their routine. If we notice something out of sort with them, we can call Blair Senior Services to help. We truly are an extra pair of eyes to help check their welfare!”

Cheryl stated “We really get to know the people. Some really look forward to seeing and talking with us. They almost become family.” Jerry said, “The whole experience is very rewarding. Plus it is a great thing that we can do together.” Cheryl stated, “Yes we do great team work!”

When asked what they liked the most about volunteering for Blair Senior Services, “It is just the people we have met! I think each of them has taken a little piece of our heart”, Cheryl said. Jerry stated, “One woman we deliver to is so excited to see us. She told us that we are the only people she really gets to talk to each week.” “It touches you,” said Cheryl.

Cheryl and Jerry would encourage everyone to give delivering meals a try. Jerry said, “It is only a couple hours a week and it is so satisfying and a great learning experience.” Cheryl said, “It is a great way to give back to your community. A rewarding experience that helps people to be able to stay in their home!”
